On the evening of 24th September, 2019, an earthquake of 5.8 magnitude hit some areas of Azad Jammu & Kashmr in Pakistan.

The city Mirpur and its surrounding hamlets were badly affected resulting in 39 causalities, more than 700 injured and infrastructure damage to roads, bridges and homes.

Islamic Relief Pakistan’s emergency team initiated its response within the first 36 hours.

Starting with rapid need assessment followed up by distribution of life saving aid such as temporary shelter, hygiene kits, tarpaulin sheets, kitchen sets and till now 1,100 families have been supported through these activities.

Mirpur district health department was handed over two fogger machines and fumigation medicine for the eradication of the virus causing dengue fever that  is endemic in earthquake affected areas.

We have ensured to address the needs of those affected by staying in close contact with the community and the government line departments.

Islamic Relief Pakistan in collaboration with other stakeholders will be expanding its response while focusing on long term recovery and rehabilitation of affected communities.
