“And establish prayer and give Zakat, and whatever good you put forward for yourselves – you will find it with Allah.”
(2:110, Qur’an)
The word Zakat comes from the Arabic root meaning purification and growth. By giving Zakat, a Muslim purifies their wealth and heart from greed, while helping to uplift those in need. This practice is both a spiritual duty and a social responsibility.
As a compulsory act of worship in Islam, Zakat forms one of its five pillars.
Beyond charity, Zakat ensures wealth circulates fairly, helping the most vulnerable maintain dignity. More than charity, Zakat is a divinely prescribed system of social justice ensuring that wealth circulates fairly and the most vulnerable are cared for with dignity.
A person must pay Zakat once their wealth surpasses the Nisab threshold and stays in their possession for a full lunar year. The standard rate of Zakat is 2.5% on eligible assets such as cash, savings, gold, silver, and business assets.
To determine whether Zakat is due, the Nisab is measured in gold or silver: 87.28 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver.
✔ Shariah-Compliant Distribution
We distribute Zakat strictly according to Islamic rulings, ensuring it reaches only those who are eligible.
✔ Local Presence, Deep Reach
With over three decades of experience across Pakistan, our teams directly reach communities that others often cannot.
✔ Transparency & Accountability
We follow clear processes, regular audits, and detailed reporting to honour your trust. All Zakat funds are managed independently from other donations.
✔ Dignity-Centered Approach
Our programmes empower families with respect, helping them rebuild their lives rather than offering temporary relief.
Islamic Relief Pakistan works diligently to use your Zakat in the most effective way possible. We treat your Zakat as an amanah (trust) and remain accountable to those in need, to you, and above all, to Allah (SWT).
Beyond its religious obligation, it offers a practical solution to reduce inequality and ease the suffering of millions.
Through Zakat, wealth circulates within society, reaching those who struggle to meet their basic needs. As a result, entire communities gain relief, stability, and renewed hope.
As Allah (SWT) reminds us in the Holy Qur’an:

“And be steadfast in prayer and regular in charity: And whatever good ye send forth for your souls before you, ye shall find it with Allah”
Picture this: if just the ten richest people in the world paid Zakat – that would be a staggering $13 trillion! The power of that money in tackling poverty would be huge.
At Islamic Relief, we use your Zakat in the most effective way possible to relieve the suffering of the world’s most vulnerable people.
