One Shelter One Family at a time
The torrential floods of 2025 have left a trail of devastation across Pakistan, especially in provinces like Punjab and KP. In Punjab, districts like Muzaffargarh, Multan, and Rajanpur are submerged under relentless waters, displacing thousands and destroying homes, crops, and livelihoods. Similarly, in KP, the mountainous region of Buner, Shangla, and Swat faced unprecedented landslides and flash floods, isolating communities and exacerbating food and shelter shortages. Over 1.5 million people were affected, with families left exposed to harsh weather, disease, and uncertainty.
In response, Islamic Relief Pakistan launched a swift and comprehensive emergency operation, mobilising teams to deliver lifesaving aid within days of the disaster. Drawing on decades of experience in humanitarian crises, IRP provided immediate food parcels, clean water, and medical support to over 50,000 individuals. Their efforts focused on the most vulnerable – women, children, and the elderly, ensuring equitable distribution through community-led assessments. This rapid intervention prevented further loss of life and laid the groundwork for long-term recovery.
A cornerstone of this response has been the distribution of 1000 shelter boxes, generously supported by ShelterBox UK. These emergency shelters represent a beacon of stability for flood survivors, transforming open-air desperation into secure havens. In KP, 500 boxes were strategically allocated: 250 to Buner, 150 to Shangla, and 100 to Swat, supporting families. In Punjab, the remaining 500 reached critical hotspots: 200 in Muzaffargarh, 200 in Multan, 30 in Rajanpur, and 70 in Bahawalpur. This targeted rollout ensured aid reached the hardest hit zones, with distribution conducted with local authorities to prioritise those in need.
