Once again, we’re hit by devastating floods, as if the destruction of 2022 wasn’t enough. Continuous monsoon rains have flooded parts of Balochistan, with villages in Sohbatpur and Jaffarabad facing severe damage. Who suffers the most? Vulnerable communities. Who’s paying the price for the actions of developed countries? Us, the people of Pakistan.

The little progress made since the 2022 floods has been washed away by floodwaters yet again, leaving communities struggling to rebuild from scratch.

Saima, from Sohbatpur, expressed her exhaustion and despair. “I was here during the 2010 floods, I was here during the 2022 floods, and now, once again, I’m witnessing the floods of 2024. They always hit us first. I’m tired.”

Her husband, a farmer, is now struggling as their land remains submerged, leaving their livelihood in jeopardy.

Similarly, Imtiaz Ali, a 12-year-old boy is among the many whose life has turned upside down just in a matter of days. His father, Naik Muhammad, is a farmer and the sole breadwinner for their family of 13. The recent floods have devastated their lives, washing away their home and destroying the school Imtiaz loved to attend.

The family’s source of income is now uncertain due to the flood leaving them struggling to survive. Imtiaz’s dreams of education are on hold as he faces an uncertain future, wondering where he will go now that his school has collapsed.
