Islamic Relief Pakistan in collaboration with Child Protection and Welfare Bureau Punjab celebrated World Children’s Day on Tuesday at Rawalpindi Arts Council. Member National Assembly from Rawalpindi and Parliamentary Secretary Narcotics Control, Sheikh Rashid Shafique was chief guest at the event.

Country Director Islamic Relief Pakistan, Mr. Umair Hasan and Additional Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Capt (R) Rizwan was also present at the occasion. Children and orphaned families being supported under different projects of Islamic Relief Pakistan participated in the event and also performed a theatre play on protection of child rights. A drawing competition between children was also held and prizes were distributed among the participants.

Sheikh Rashid Shafique while addressing the audience said that “The government has started various initiatives for the welfare and protection of the rights of children. While speaking to the children present at the event, he said, “You should work hard and study as you are the future of this country.”

Expressing his views at the occasion, Country Director Islamic Relief Pakistan, Mr Umair Hasan said “Children are at the heart of our work at Islamic Relief Pakistan. We strongly believe in protecting the rights of children in Pakistan and we ensure the same through our development activities across the country.” He urged the audience to play their part in laying the foundation for a safer and prosperous Pakistan by addressing the issues faced by children around us.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Rawalpindi Captain (R) Rizwan added, “It is the dire need of time that we work together to improve the lives of children and developing their abilities to cope with challenges. It is our moral and social responsibility to educate our children. He appreciated the efforts of Islamic Relief Pakistan for addressing the deep rooted issues faced by children in the society.
